Our Team

Our church leadership is made up of people from diverse backgrounds, all with the common goal of helping others develop a deeper relationship with God.

Trevor Van Laar | Pastor

Trevor was born and raised on an almond farm in the Central Valley of California. He was blessed with loving parents and a church family who guided him toward Jesus. His first experience in ministry was in high school where he led his first bible study. After graduating from California State University, Fresno (with a degree in Administration of Recreation and Leisure studies), Trevor began his ministry career at Mount Hermon Christian Camps and Conference Center in Santa Cruz, California where he served in multiple leadership positions over the course of a decade. Many long-time GPC attenders will remember that Trevor also served right here at GPC as the Director of Family Ministries from 2007-2012. While serving GPC the first time, Trevor finished up his education with an Masters of Divinity from Western Seminary.

Trevor is married to Cynthia, who as it happens, grew up attending GPC! Together they have four great children, Noelle, Wyatt, Emma and Mackenzie. Trevor is an active member of the Gilroy community, serving in various roles in the Garlic Festival, and as a board member and Facilitator for Leadership Gilroy classes each year.

Carol Moreland | Office Administrator

Carol Joined our staff in May of 2014. She and her husband William are longtime members at GPC. As well as being on staff Carol enjoys volunteering in many areas here at Gilroy Presbyterian Church.

You can find Carol at the front desk ready to greet you with a smile and help you in any way She can. She enjoys working with Church leaders, staff and volunteers to ensure that things run smoothly.

When not at her desk, Carol spends time working in her garden, cooking, baking, and reading her way through the mystery section at the Gilroy Library.

Katie Van Horn | Director of Family Ministry

Katie grew up in GPC, attending our church from the age of 5. She was an active member of our youth programs through her middle and high school years, serving on the Pastor Nominating Committee in 2016, and working as an assistant director of Day Camp in both 2018 and 2019. Katie graduated from Gilroy High School in 2019, obtained her BS in mathematics from CSUMB in 2024, and is currently working towards her multiple subject teaching credential and MA in education from SJSU.

In May 2022, after months of volunteering with GPC youth, Katie was hired on as our Director of Family Ministry. Katie is passionate about both children's and youth ministry, working hard to ensure our kid's have a great time growing up at GPC, just as she did. Katie views her ministry as a way to mentor and guide our children to Christ, and encourages them to invite Him into their lives.

You may see Katie around our campus decorating chalk boards in the sanctuary, lesson planning in her office, and more often than not, playing games or hanging out with our children and youth! Katie is your go-to person for any kids, youth, day camp, or event related questions!

Denise joined the Gilroy Presbyterian Church staff in January 2018 as the church’s Accountant. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Accounting, Denise earned her CPA license in 1993 and has been building her career doing taxes and accounting ever since.
